It is always very exciting to see something you own on the cover of a magazine!


See my pillow in my guest room? I made it, from a $1 fabric swatch from American Mills in Griffin. Bought the rope trim there also. The back is a solid fabric that I already owned. Later, I found another swatch, so if I want, I can have 2 of these. I would say for less than $5 each.

Now, the March cover of Country Living. See something familiar on the chair? I checked the source page in the back. Turns out that pillow is $168 by J. Seitz. That makes my bargain hunter side really happy.

Back to the March issue. It is no secret in blogtown that County Living has been stepping it up since the closing of great mags like Cottage Living, Domino, etc. This really is one of those issues that I love some many things, I will read it cover to cover.

This particular article, made me think of a property I have listed for sale in Griffin. I do have a real estate blog, http://www.griffin-realty.blogspot.com/, so I try not to make real estate style about my properties for sale. However, this brings up the topic of "vision." It's easy to overlook the potential of a property if you do not like the owner's style. I try not to fall victim to this, but this article tells me I have.

This is 113 West Slaton Avenue in downtown Griffin. Listing info. here. I have always thought this building could be really cool. It is an open space on the main level {perfect for retail, maybe an antique shop, furniture boutique, or fabric store?}, and an apartment on the 2nd floor.

Upstairs there are great brick walls and wood floors. Can you see it?

Here's the property in CL. This lady bought an old post office building, and turned it into a live/work property. She lives upstairs, and runs a furniture shop and antique mall in the lower level. She also hosts bistro-night dinners, and flower arranging workshops. How cool is that?

So, does it look familiar? Two story, free-standing, brick building.

And now, an interior shot. I can totally see the room in my building looking something like this. Too bad the Whippets need a yard, or we could do something like this! In this market/economy, it's good to be creative. I think living above your work is a great way to consolidate expenses when you are a small business owner. {Like me :)}

I have a few things to cover today. First, I learned about a new blog via simply seleta. Her friend, Jennifer, has a new blog. Simply Seleta is one of my daily reads, so I thought I'd check it out. Here is Jennifer's blog, modGIRL.

the easiest pillow!

Our slow master bedroom transformation is beginning to happen. This past weekend, I made my first table skirt. I will post how I did it soon. Then, yesterday, I finally made my ikat pillow for our bed. This fabric is marrakesh cobblestone. It came from PJ's in Albany, sorry I do not know who makes it! This first picture, from Southern Living was the inspiration for my pillow.

This was the easiest pillow I have ever made. I didn't have to make an exact size for an insert. Also, I didn't mind the square corners. Once I decided on where to cut the fabric, I folded it over, then sewed it up {leaving room to put in the stuffing}.
You will notice the paint sample taped on the wall. {It is Palladian Blue by Ben Moore, if I use it, I will do the half formula to make it lighter} This is a great Benjamin Moore sample for about $3. Saves the hassle of painting samples on your walls. I bought mine at our local Ace Hardware in Griffin.

I am trying to decide what way to go on curtains. Currently, some cheap muslin is pinned up. I really like Pottery Barn's Peyton drapes. They have this nice oatmeal or
possibly the french ivory. I have ordered samples. The walls really need to be painted before I can decide.

Another pic from my file. This is from i suwannee. This bedroom is similar to ours since we have a single window behind the bed. I would like to hang curtains a little wide like these.

Luckily, it's the right size for a Whippet to lean on. That's the most important thing.

horsey textile tuesday!

The whole family spent some time together yesterday. That includes: Charles, 2 Whippets, 2 horses, & me. In honor of Duke & Abe, we have a horse inspired textile tuesday. I usually do fabric by the yard, but today our textile of choice comes in the form of pillows.

pillow talk

On Tuesday I posted two fabrics that I have in our living room. Maureen @ the Ingle Nook Decor blog left a comment about seeing the finished pillows. Well, I still need to take decent pictures of our living room because it is close to being finished. Until then, here are some close-ups of the pillows and the fabrics.

I bought this sofa at Abode 7 in Atlanta. It was the floor model, and they had the back four pillows covered in a stripe with golds and mustard colors. I had the new covers made in the Bohemian Rapsody from Lewis & Sheron. {The small striped pillow is from West Elm} Also, since this picture, we have 2 new small coffee tables.

I love this fabric! At $45/yard, I got lucky with remants for much less! We have two of these chairs, and I am still debating on what color to paint them. I am sort of fading black out, and the fabric on the sofa has brown. Also on the look out for a good fabric to cover the seat cusions.

Whippet real good

Today, Lane has her check up with the internal medicine vet in Atlanta. She is doing much better. We've been fighting a little urinary tract infection for awhile. Since today's post needs to be short & sweet {b/c it's late & I'm in a hurry}, it's going to be about Whippets.

I have millions of pics of my sweet girls! Lane {white & tan} just turned 11, & Sophie {tan} just turned 10. We have been together for awhile!

Erin @ Elements of Style did a post on Whippets making it into the world of decor. Charles already thinks I buy too many things with Whippets or horses on them. These are some cute prints & pillows, he would hate them, but I love them!!

I recently saw these for the 2nd time somewhere, on a blog or magazine. {Help me out if it was your blog}. A couple of years ago I had saved these in my favorites file from Anthropologie when they were selling them. I always thought I could paint my own....

I also can't remember what fabric this is? Think I first saw it in an issue of Domino. Maybe Shumacher????? Anyway, Love it! {not really my colors though!}

Think Erin had these on her post, and I also saw them online when I was redecorating my living room at the beginning of the year.
