baby shower & some staging

This past Saturday we hosted a baby shower for Amanda. She is having a little girl in June! Jennifer hosted the shower at her house. While they have made much progress on their home, Jennifer still wants to do some things inside. I will have to get her to email me an exterior shot. They recently painted the outside, and it looks great. Another big thing they tackled was ripping up carpet and refinishing the hardwood floors through-out.

Luckily, her walls and furniture are a neutral canvas. We added some pillows that I brought from home. It will look familiar to some of you!

Jennifer's husband, Philip, did a little furniture rearranging for us as well.

The lamps are a new purchase from TJ Maxx in Newnan. They will find permanent residence in my master bedroom. Don't they look great in her house though!

Now on to the baby shower! We used white hydrangea type flowers and pink roses.

Of course with a baby girl, lots of pink and green. Amanda's nursery is also going to have pink and green.

We labeled the drinks. Not in order of importance...

The bibs on the mantle were an idea I got from Shannon's shower a few months back.

Robyn was a great gift helper!

mini make-over

This home is currently for sale in Griffin. Is is a great home, with good bones. It just needs some vision. The inside has carpet covering hardwoods, and lots of wallpaper. I have had this house listed for awhile, and before me, it was listed with another real estate co. Recently, I was thinking we needed a change, or something to make those that drive by to notice it again. This house is a nice style, it just didn't work with the royal blue shutters and front door. Here the after. Now we have black shutters and door. I think it makes a big difference. Sort of dresses up the house. I think this could be considered one of my first staging projects. Exterior staging that is.

It is on a huge .99 acre lot in town.

real affordable roman shades

One more post about Christine's house. She found this great fabric at Americal Mills Outlet, here in Griffin. They have a great fabric selection, and they usually have clearance fabrics. I think she got a few yards of this for about $6 per yard. This picture is in her office/den. She had 2 cheap Ikea roman shades. I can't find the website where there were directions for covering an existing roman shade with fabric and fabric glue, that's it! Custom roman shades are so expensive, that I think this a a great option. She did a great job, I love the final result!

I didn't see the shade on Ikea today, but they do have a roller shade for $7.99 that you could also cover. Target has a ivory, jute, roman shade starting at $22, could do the same thing. I will keep looking for the DIY site.

from blah to bold!

This is a great, easy makeover. My friend Christine was looking to repaint her and Kyle's house, and she only had a few days to decide. {Kyle had already scheduled the painter}. That is very stressful, but maybe helpful? If I had deadlines when choosing paint colors, maybe I could actually get it done a little faster....
Anyway, This is the before pic.....


I told her since there wasn't much time, she should consider going with the classic khaki and black look. I think mixing in bright white trim makes any house look new and sharp!

After a few paint samples, I think she went with a Benjamin Moore color, maybe Jamestown Gold or Tan....will have to check on that. Christine also went with the timeless Charleston Green for the shutters & front door.

I think it looks like a new house! Her flower are also looking great. I am thinking now she needs to buy that tall, 3 tiered, topiary at Home Depot for the left of her front door! :)

Setting the Stage...

Door mats are much more chic than the used to be. With all of the great options out there, why not update your entry way. When a home is for sale, potential buyers have time to check out the entryway to your home (usually while waiting on their agent to get the key out of the lockbox).
