our cottage {guest bedroom}
This post begins a slow tour of our house. I say slow, because I am not going to post a new room each day. I have to get everything clean for photo shoots! Anyway, this is our guest bedroom. It used to be our room, but now the girls like to hang and look out the windows.
I still need new lamps, so please pardon the mismatched dinky ones.
We didn't have closet doors in this room, so I hung mattelasse curtains from Target. The walls are Benjamin Moore Yarmouth Blue. I spray painted the furniture a cream color from Home Depot.
The pillows are my favorite part of the room. I made the middle one from a $1 fabric swatch from American Mills outlet here in Griffin. I also bought the natural rope trim there. The two faux bois pillows are also from American Mills, but I didn't make them.

{antique auctions} my new obsession
Saturday was my very first antique auction. It was so much fun!! I thought we'd go early, get bored, and be home early afternoon. Well, we stayed til the bitter end. I couldn't leave. Might miss a deal. There were some great deals to be had. Honestly, I was amazed.
These first few pics are from my phone~sorry for the poor quality!
Rug city...
Lots of large pieces. Dressers, secretary's, hutches, sideboards. you name it.
One of my purchases. A chippendale mirror. To paint or not to paint, that is my question??
Super excited about my Shield dining chair~I have been wanting one of these!
Early Empire Game Table. I loved the beaded edge and the wood.
Just needs a little work, then off to the booth to be sold!
Love the base too.
You would die if I told you what I bought this chair for. So I won't :) Just needs a little paint, and new fabric.
I'm not sure if this puppy is going to the booth, or staying with us.
Last, but definitely not least, the wood grain bucket.

master bedroom transformation in progress!
You can see the before stage of our bedroom here. We are really making some progress. Found a new headboard at the Pottery Barn outlet on Monday. That was a complete score!! Will post that when the slipcover comes in. Today is the painting of the bedroom. We are using Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue HC-144. I think I mentioned in my other post that I am doing the half formula so it's lighter. I got the idea from a room in Coastal Living. I couldn't find that pic online, so when we get it all finished, I will scan the picture. It has been almost a year since our master bath and closet renovation, so I am proud to finally get the painting done!!
{Just realized I never posted pics of the bath and closet, I will post them once the painting is done!}

if you can't afford new art, make your own!
I think it was Christmas '06, Charles gave me a starter kit for acrylic painting, and 6 lessons. Sadly, I never booked the lessons, so I still have no idea how to paint with acrylics. I figure the teacher might not appreciate my calling her some 3 years later....
This is the kit. It's been sitting in my office closet. I pulled it out a few weeks ago. Working up the nerve to test it out.
I took art in high school, but that was awhile ago....
My first step was to mix my colors. Much harder than I thought to get them the way I wanted.

Hobby Lobby recently had all their art canvas on sale. I grabbed 2 of these. I think for $7 each.
Not to bad an investment.
I did a post on art that I like. Decided to use some of my favorites for inspiration. I wanted colors to blend with the living room. {And I just love aquas and greens}
Not to bad an investment.

some blog business
I have a few things to cover today. First, I learned about a new blog via simply seleta. Her friend, Jennifer, has a new blog. Simply Seleta is one of my daily reads, so I thought I'd check it out. Here is Jennifer's blog, modGIRL.
Through modGIRL, I learned about this fabulous cashmere pillow give away. They are custom pillows, and I want one! Vist this blog to enter the give away. You can also find the pillows here, at the Queen of Cashmere.
Next, I would like to introduce another new blog. Sarah Beth is a fellow Griffinite, and I am so happy she started a blog! Check her out here. I am adding her to my blog list now!

Have a great weekend!

bring it spring!
It's been strangely cold this past week in Georgia. After receiving Boden's new catalog yesterday, I am now officially ready for spring. This dress would really be a great start!
