soon to be sofa...

I am sofa shopping for the new house. This is the current 76" sofa in our living room. We bought a shorter sofa to work with our design/furniture arrangement. I have been very happy with it. Great color when you have beige/tan dogs, and the back pillows are easily fluffed back to life after some 30 lb. pups have been sleeping on them!
Another great idea we had when buying this sofa was in the event of a move, it could work in a more formal living space. Well, that's what is happening. This little guy will be living in a formal living room!

For the family room in our next house, we are going for style & comfort!! Charles' only request is for it to be long enough for napping. This one below is from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Christine and I saw it in the Atlanta store, and it is impressive! It is 98" long, and super comfy! The showroom model was slipcovered in an awesome linen. However, this extra long, linen, down filled sofa is a tad out of the alloted budget! So I am moving on....

So, I did drag Charles to Atl for some sofa testing. My main concern is the look and style, but I did want his input on the comfort factor. We hit Crate & Barrel-nothing there for us, then Restoration Style-the only sofa I liked online wasn't in the store, then Pottery Barn. We both really loved the Comfort Square Arm sofa with the box cushions. It definitely passed the comfort test. This sofa is 89" long, and has a very deep seat. We also like the fact that it is slipcovered, and their twill fabrics are machine washable. A very important thing for us with the 2 Whippets. I really do like square arms in general, so this was top of the list for about 2 weeks until.....

I find out that my favorite store in Saint Simons carries a brand called the Best Slipcover Company. Everything is slipcovered, and the big clincher is the fabrics are all washable and fabulous!!! We're not talking about your basic denims and twills, we're talking awesome linens and printed fabrics that I LOVE!!! Then I remember my favorite designer & blogger, Erika, has posted about BSC before. This is her sofa below. It's called the Rachel, and I love it. Style-check, washable linen slipcover-check, good review from a real designer-check!

Now the only question is, will Rachel be long enough? The website has her coming in at 84" wide. That worried me, but I also see that the arms aren't wide so, I called BSC, and happy day, the inside seat width is the same as the Pottery Barn sofa above!!

After obsessing over this sofa for a few days, I remembered seeing one similar.

Same looking sofa, and awesome box pleated skirt. This is from Market on Newcastle in Brunswick, Ga. I loved that store, and I don't think I ever did a post about it. It's crazy that earlier this year, way before the new house/furniture thing was even an idea, I apparently like this style of sofa.

So now I am just waiting on pricing to see if it's going to be a go....Also like the matching club chairs, but that will be another day.

Have a great weekend! We have a full weekend of end of summer parties, and more packing, cleaning, organizing, etc. Oh, and our Comer Jones cottage is now officially under contract! We could not be more happy at the timing of this!

What's Your Style in One Photo Challenge!

The blog, From The Right Bank, to The Left Coast, To The Deep South, has it's 3rd installment of "What's Your Style in One Picture" challenge. I decided to browse through my saved pics to see what I could use.

This picture below has been in my favorites file for a long time. {I always think if I were an Auburn fan or UF fan, this would be my room!} Anyway, I love casual, yet put together look of this room. I would not necessarily use blue and orange, but I like the mix of bright colors against neutral furniture and walls. I think my style is going towards neutral paint colors and large pieces of furniture, with colorful accents.

For this photo challenge I had to search to find the source of this picture. Turns out it is from designer Palmer Weiss. His website has some fabulous pictures! I will be doing a post on Palmer as a new favorite designer soon!
Again, I am not a bright orange person, but I just love the way this room feels. There are plenty of good looking formal spaces online, but I love finding casual family rooms that are something that I can imagine living in.

Head on over to the blog if you want to enter this challenge!

cool furniture faux real!

I have always been a huge fan of distressed and painted furniture. When I lived in Newnan, I used to go to Lakewood Antiques Market. That really started my love for distressed, painted furniture. During that phase, I liked it really distressed. So much that you might have pieces of paint falling off! Now, I am really into all these distressed paint techniques that have layers of different colors. A little cleaner, no paint flakes. Anyway, I want to try my hand at this, but our Georgia winter is going to have to ease up a bit before I start painting outside.

Today, Tricia over at the morning t, shared some pics of a painting project she just finished. I am really impressed. If she didn't live far away from me, I would ask her to come over to help me paint!

Check out this old piece of furniture she had in her dining room. If you read up on her blog, she is transitioning her home away from dark, and into more light and bright! {It looks great, be sure to look for her new coffee table~fabulous!}

Tricia used paint she had. Over on her blog, she explains the steps to achieve this look. This is so professional looking to me. I could see this in an expensive furniture boutique store! And I really love the colors used. I am a huge fan of grays right now. Thanks Tricia for sharing!
The next furniture paint transformation comes from Layla at the lettered cottage. I'm sure you've been to the Lettered Cottage before. Layla is always coming up with a great economical project. She refinished this dining room table.

Check out TLC for more pics, and details on her work. Again, I think a very professional looking job!

Aren't you inspired to break out the paint brush this weekend? I am, but like I said above, it's going to have to warm up here.

1st blog award!!!

Many thanks to Pk over at Room Remix for awarding my blog the Honest Scrap Award! This is very exciting, as it is my first blog award. I'm not exactly sure what the award is, but I'll take it!!

Here are the rules I must follow, upon receiving this award:
1) Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award.
2) Share "10 Honest Things" about myself.
3) Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me.
4) Tell those 7 people they've been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving.

10 things about me::

1. I am a huge animal lover, especially my Lane, Sophie, Duke & Abe

2. Living in a small town really is fun. You always see friends whenever you go out!

3. I like to think I am a clean freak, but really I'm not.

4. Reading books is not really my thing, so I buy magazines instead {by the thousands} Especially home decor mags.

5. My husband, Charles, and I have the most fun when we have family time with our two Whippets.

6. He cooks, I clean...

7. I am thankful for all of my good friends. I really need to get better at calling the out of town ones more often! {Sorry, you know who you are!}

8. When I am sad, or just need time to think, I usually head to the barn to see my two horses. They really are therapeutic.

9. I am amazed each time I see my two nieces and two nephews. Can't believe how fast they are growing up!

10. Blogging is still so new to me, and I can't believe how fun it's turned out to be. My marriage is better because I don't talk decorating all the time with Charles. I have all of you for that now!

I would like to pass this award onto the following blogs that I really enjoy reading {I would love to include more}:

1. Odi et Amo

2. Chic Coles

3. Beach Cottage Love

4. Blue Hydrangea

5. Morning T

6. House of Turquoise

7. Haven & Home

charles, sarah, julie, & julia

In the past few days, I have noticed other bloggers talking about the new movie, Julie & Julia. To be honest, I didn't have the desire to run out and see it. Charles usually wants to go to the movie theater more than I do. I think I have mentioned our spending freeze before? Anyway, last night we decided to treat ourselves on a little date since we have been so good about eating at home. First, we had sushi at Griffin's new Japanese restaurant. Then, we cruised by the fabulous (JK) Griffin movie theater to see what was on. Sadly, the options were bad. The only movie we would consider was Julie & Julia. All of the sudden when the movie started, I remembered it was based on bloggging! The excitement started to set in, I thought "maybe I will learn something!" I have had this blog online for awhile, but I am still really new to posting and keeping up with it. Charles and I both liked the movie. I think there were times he was ready for it to speed up, but I enjoyed every minute. I give it a 2 paws up!

I religiously visit the Elements of Style Blog daily. It goes with my morning coffee. Last night, I was turned on to another great blog. Urban Grace Interiors. I have added the blog in my favorite blog list, as well as a few others. I found all of the new blogs through Urban Grace. There is no excuse for boredom again!!
